Jersey Heifers & Murrah Buffalo
A milestone for Equitrans’ history, shipping 28 Jersey Heifers and 20 Murrah Buffalo (female). Mary Abanes, Equitrans Senior Relocation Specialist, along with our Ops and Road Transport team, orchestrated this huge shipment of high-quality bovines into the UAE, where they were strictly checked by the Ministry Vets. Once tests were taken and all clear, this shipment was then loaded into our trucks and shipped to their final destination in top-class condition.
The Jersey Heifer originates from the Isle of Jersey in the 18th Century. They produce higher protein milk by around 3.7%. Cheesemakers make 25% more cheese from Jersey milk. Jerseys are friendly and calm, have greater longevity, reduced mastitis, and are robust and disease-resistant compared to other breeds. They adapt well to hot and cold climates. Their lifespan is 10-12 years, they weigh on average 360-545 kg, and stand 107-115 cm tall at the shoulder. They can yield 2,700-3,600 kg of milk per year per cow.
The Murrah Buffalo originated in India. From 1962-1990, Murrah Buffalos from India were imported to Bulgaria, creating a new population of buffalo by upgrading their local buffalo. Our shipment of high-quality Murrah Buffalo came from Bulgaria. They are disease resistant. Their milk has a higher fat, protein, lactose, vitamin, and mineral content than cow’s milk, making it ideal for Mozzarella cheese.
